Need406: Can you please tell us a little bit about the band?
Jamie: The Sees is a Brooklyn based band that started playing together in the fall of 2022. Tim (drums), Alex (bass) and I are close friends and decided to jam one day at Pirate Studios in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The jams felt great and as someone always looking to put another band together it all came together quickly. Yoni (keys/synthesizer) is also a dear friend and we played together in Cape Francis. I knew I wanted keyboards in the band and thankfully Yoni was game to join the band.
Need406: The Band’s debut album Conversations With My Future Self is scheduled to drop on November 17, 2023. How did the band decide on the album title?
Jamie: I have always been fascinated with the concept of time travel in the metaphysical and campy 80s movie sci-fi sense. The idea of speaking with a future version of myself without disrupting the time space continuum has intrigued me since watching Back To The Future when it first came out.
Need406: Was there any particular reason for releasing the album on November 17, 2023?
Jamie: We planned out the release with our PR team at Big Picture Media. We wanted to release the record before Thanksgiving so people can crush turkey and blast the album with family!
Need406: What online sites can people purchase the album from?
Jamie: The record is available for streaming everywhere (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Soundcloud, YouTube, etc.) and you can purchase it on Bandcamp and iTunes I believe.
Need406: How many songs did the band have going into the studio to record Conversations With My Future Self and were any songs left off the album?
Jamie: We rehearsed all the songs with the intention of recording them all, outside of “Moments” which I wrote the morning before recording additional guitars. Nothing was left off the album but I had a handful of ideas that just weren’t ready. Next album they will be there.
Need406: How long did it take The Sees to record Conversations With My Future self?
Jamie: We started the recording process in April of this year. We spent 4-5 days getting down the drums and bass sounds and everything else (guitars, keyboards, synths, vocals, overdubs) came into place in the following months.
Need406: The Calling is the first single off Conversations With My Future Self. What songs does the band plan to release as singles?
Jamie: We also released “Voices” as a single. With the album being available you can now listen to everything.
Need406: Is there anything you can tell us about creating Conversations With My Future Self that you haven’t told anyone yet?
Jamie: The Calling is a Cthulhu/Godzilla/Cloverfield inspired deep water monster. You can see monster on the back cover of our vinyl record.
Need406: Hollywood has a long history of making sequels of successful movies. Do you anticipate any of the songs off Conversations With My Future Self possibly earning a sequel on a future SEES album and if so why?
Jamie: I have an entire plan of songs inspired by Empire Strikes Back so yes. It’s an all Hoth planet album complete with storm troopers, tauntauns, Jedis and Sith Lords.
Need406: How difficult was it forming a band during the pandemic and did that push back any efforts to record Conversations With My Future Self?
Jamie: The band was formed after things were safer to congregate and play in close quarters but a lot of ideas of the songs were written while stuck in my Greenpoint, Brooklyn apartment.
Need406: Was there a particular concert or album(s) that inspired you to become a musician?
Jamie: Being five years old hearing Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Van Halen’s 5150 blew me away as a boy. Both albums are completely different but loved them for different reasons.
Need406: Does the band plan on touring the country in 2024?
Jamie: That’s the plan!
Need406: Where do you see The Sees five (5) years from now?
Jamie: Hopefully we have finished at least (3) more records, toured regionally and nationally and opened up for bands that we love!
