Tall Ships June 17-22, 2017 Event Preview




June 1, 2017 -- Boston Harbor welcomes the return of the Tall Ships for the first time since 2000. The nautical world takes center stage in Boston Harbor as the festivals begin on Saturday June 17, 2017 these magnificent sailing vessels are lead by the US Coast Guard Barque Eagle and include the Union from Peru, Europa from the Netherlands, Alexander Von Humboldt II from Germany, El Galeon from Spain and many, many more. The combined length of the tall ships participating in Sail Boston 2017 is 6,238 feet! The equivlent of eight Prudentia Towers or the length of the route the New England Patriots took on their championship parade.




Sail Boston 2017 is part of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta, a transatlantic race organized by Sail Training International. (see sailing map below).




The regatta commenced in the UK on April 13, raced to Portugal, then to Bermuda, then to Boston. The Grand Parade of Sail launches a five day (June 17-22, 2017) nautical celebration featuring educational, cultural, interactive and re-enactment events and activities as well as daily FREE public boarding of the ships in the Seaport and Charlestown. A colorful crew and cadets parade, soccer tournament, crew party and sunset salutes highlight the landside activities. For up to date event information download the SAIL Boston App.





Over 45 tall ships are expected to participate in Sail Boston 2017 festivities with ships hailing from more than ten countries including: Canada, Chile, Cook Islands, Ecuador, Germany, Spain, The Netherlands, United States and more! (As of May 25, 2017).

HOW TO GET TO SAIL BOSTON 2017 EVENTS:

The Sail Boston Express provides bus connection to Sail Boston from several area Park & Rides thoughout New England from June 17-21, 2017. The Express is a reservation-based system and spots will fill up quickly so book today! To reserve tickets log onto to SailBostonExpress website. Cities served by Sail Boston Express: Hyannis, MA (connection fto Hy-Line Ferry Service from Nantucket), Nashua, NH/ Tyngsborough, MA (Park & Ride), New Bedford/Taunton/West Bridgewater (Park & Ride), Plymouth/Rockland, MA (Park & Ride), Quincy, MA (Quincy Adams MBTA Station), Salem, NH/Methuen/Andover, MA (Park & Ride) and Worcester/Framingham, MA (Park & Ride).

The Sail Boston Circulator provides shuttle connection service to/from the Seaport District, North Station and Charlestown June 17 – 21, 2017. Easily navigate from the Seaport District to Charlestown with one simple ticket. Buy Tickets HERE. Shuttle service will provide a link between North Station - Charlestown Navy Yard (Tall Ship Viewing Location) and the Seaport District (Tall Ship viewing location).Service allows for hop-on hop-off service for each day during Sail Boston (one price all day service.). North Station to Charlestown boarding location: Causeway Street between Bevery Medford Streets. North Station to Seaport District boarding locations: Causeway Street at Haverhill Street. Charlestown boarding location: Chelsea Street at 5th Street. Seaport Distict boarding location: Seaport BLVD at the corner of Boston Wharf Road. Service runs: Saturday June 17th from 7am to 10pm. Sunday June 18th thru Wednesday 21st service runs from 10am to 10pm.

Take The T: MBTA shuttles will run direct service on June 17-21 from Sullivan Square station to Charlestown Navy Yard, with additional shuttles on June 17 from JFK/UMASS station to Castle Island. The MBTA offers Sail Boston transportation passes log onto the MBTASailBoston.com for more info. Passes range from five to thirty-five dollars depending on what pass you purchase (per person per 24 hour day). Transportation passes can also be purchased at ticket offices located at Back Bay, North Station and South Station from June 5-21, 2017. Passes will also be sold during events at major Subway stations.
