Boston Calling Music Festival Brings Back Blank Canvas

March 18, 2015 (BOSTON, MA) With great enthusiasm, Boston Calling Music Festival announces the return of Blank Canvas, a contest that gives artists across the country the opportunity to create a mural, which will be on display at this May’s festival for over 20,000 fans to enjoy. A total of five winners will be chosen, awarded a $750 cash prize (with an additional $250 for supplies), and four 3-day VIP tickets to Boston Calling. “We first launched Blank Canvas at Boston Calling’s September 2014 edition, and we were thrilled with the response we received from artists all over the country. Their creativity very much enhanced the visual appeal of the festival. We are excited to bring Blank Canvas back this May and further incorporate art into the festival layout,” says Brian Appel, co-founder of Boston Calling. Art is encouraged to be inspired in some form by Boston Calling, artists, Boston, or simply festivals on the whole. Submissions from local and national artists alike are welcome. Judges appointed by Boston Calling will determine finalists, and with the input of the festival’s social media fans.

All submissions must be two-dimensional and should take into consideration the fact that they will be displayed outdoors within Boston Calling’s festival footprint at City Hall Plaza; all murals must be able to be stretched on a backing wooden frame in sizes of 5-8 feet long and 4-6 feet high. Each submission must be accompanied with the artist’s name, contact information and a 100-word description of the submission.

To be valid for entry, submissions must be received by April 10, 2015 and winners will be notified by April 24, 2015. They will then have four weeks to create their physical mural. A complete list of contest rules can be found at Spring.BostonCalling.com/Contest
