Since their first release in 1993, Ultimate Alternative WaversBuilt To Spill have become one of the defining forces in American independent (in every sense of the word) modern rock:

"Martsch and his bandmates continue to make dense, driving rock with good old-fashioned chords and melodies, and for this we should all be grateful."  -- Rolling Stone.

"Doug Martsch and his band have perfected the witty, melodic and poignant articulation of longing, heartache, alienation, spite, scorn and just about anything else you care to imagine."  - Spin.Com.

"The solo, perhaps is not cool...There are, of course exceptions to this long-developing trend. Chief among the standard-bearers is Built To Spill." - Associated Press.

"... As if no one ever doubted the beauty of a long, slow-building solo...Doug Martsch applies his high voice and his earnest intelligence to songs that address both his private conflicts and his political convictions."  -- The New York Times.

Built To Spill have proven they are most certainly built to last." - Nylon.

"Subtly excellent an obviously influential. If you're not excited about Built To spill, you're living in the past." - Magnet Magazine.

"The Boise, Idaho band has filled the space where flannel meets Birkenstocks. Their jangly head trips placed them somewhere between Sonic Youth and Luna on the indie-rock circuit, but they've also wooed Deadheads...Unique, virtuosic musicianship."  -- Spin.
